Let the lack of reading comprehension as well as perception of roles remind you of how we DO NOT live in a “Post Racial” America. All day I have been reading posts and tweets of people that are mad at the Hunger Games movie. Not because it’s not gory or the effects aren’t up to par (which were my concerns) but because of the race of characters. Rue and Thresh are BLACK they are described that way in the book. They come form District 11 which is basically a modern day plantation where they harvest foods and are subjected to the worst of Capital control. Cinna’s only descriptive features are his hair , eyes and eye liner color he pretty much could have been any color but they cast Lenny Kravitz a BI-RACIAL man. I personally don’t know whats worse the implication that Lenny Kravitz as a black man can’t be quiet and gentle or that having Cinna be the “lone” representation of a black man isn’t ideal. Cinna is a stylist there is no mention of him being gay ! So what if he was apparently outraged black men think it’s okay to submit their homophobia in response to racism. Clearly America is not as ” Post-Racial” as one would like to believe.

Hello ,
I have been attending this illustrious institution since 2009 and have had a variety of experiences. College is a business. At the end of the day I am a customer and you are my service provider. I have paid/borrowed around $70,000 to date in order to utilize said services. What do you I get for my money ? Poor customer service , attitudes and lack of response of various complaints. Today I was barred from checking out a book from the library because I had a “balance” since the month of August 2010.
I find that hard to believe because I was a summer student for two summers in a row and frequented the library often. If this fine existed in 2010 and was unpaid then it must have rolled over to 2011 right ? If my fine today stopped me from checking out a book today then what about this summer or the one before that ? When I brought up this point I was informed that the unpleasant young woman I had spoken with earlier told me wrong and I could check out a book but I still had to pay the fine because I was “notified” as of August 2011. When I informed you that no one had told me of the fine you insisted because there was a note in the system saying I had been informed. You then proceeded to argue with me and when I said we should agree to disagree you told ” NO ! You have to pay your fine”.
In case you don’t see the various issues here let me point them out. Let’s go off on the assumption that I was “notified” :
1.) I was allowed to check out various books and other materials for 2 summers with my “fine”
2.) I was then told by an SA that I couldn’t check out books because my fine was too high only to turn around and be told by a Supervisor that they weren’t.
3.) Because of this misinformation I was unable to utilize the very services that are apart of my tuition.
Now lets state the facts as I see them :
1.) I was charged a fine and not notified
2.) I was not allowed to use library materials because a staff member wasn’t trained properly on procedure.
3.) I was provided poor customer service by a supervisor
4.) BECAUSE OF THIS MISINFORMATION I WAS UNABLE TO UTILIZE THE VERY SERVICES THAT ARE APART OF MY TUITION.
Oh and lets not forget
5.) The note in the system was signed off by another supervisor who DIDN’T NOTIFY ME.
So far we have ignorance , bad attitudes and deceit displayed in one little afternoon. Hope I can live up to your shining example of work place ettiqute.

Corduroy was one of the first books I ever read, and one of the first books I ever saw that had a girl that looked like me.
My first favorite book
